"Never Swing Left " aka Reagan
Reagan is only a year old. She is the youngest greyhound I have ever adopted. She was born on a greyhound farm near Orlando, FL. The owner of the litter was not paying his board bill and the farm had been sold and was closing up shop. The farm owner asked for help in placing the puppies. Pam Davis alerted me to the litter and gave me first pick if I could be in Orlando quickly. As fate would have it, I was traveling to Tampa, FL for an agility seminar the following Monday and Tuesday. It was very easy to leave a day early and head down to Orlando.
The pups were not leash trained so a friend of mine, Kate Long, and I put different colored collars on all of the pups that would let us and offered food. She and I evaluated the four greyhounds that were easy to collar and who were interested in food. I narrowed it down to the 47B and 47I (ear tattoos). Both were food motivated and did not appear to be noise sensitive. In the end, I decided on 47I because she was the bravest outside of the dog run. She investigated more of the farm than the other pups and was clearly the sassy, alpha bitch when she was with the group. I opted for the attitude.
I am enjoying the adventure of training a new dog and starting with one this young. It has been quite a few years since Katie and Travis knew nothing, but the basic training methods are coming back to me.
